Flight of the Conchords is the best show on television. It’s smart, hilarious and deals with social issues faced by today’s young adults. There have been few shows in my lifetime that have achieved this and Flight of the Conchords is the most recent one. It follows in the footsteps of Full House and the TV adaptation of Aladdin before that. Watch the above clip for a dose of inspiration and a potential career change in a song that sounds like a cover-band of The Police.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra
Friday, January 30, 2009
I can’t tell you how excited this image makes me. Yes, that is right, it is Snake Eyes from everyone’s favorite childhood toy, G.I. Joe. My buddy Pete sent this to me and I nearly crapped myself in excitement. In my basement Voltron and various G.I. Joe’s DID NOT get along. Most of the time Voltron would stomp out the G.I. Joe’s pretty easily (I’ve been a fan of robots over humans for a long time now) but sometimes Snake Eyes would get real pissed (pissed drunk… not pissed off… Snake Eyes had a drinking problem in my world) and start slicing and dicing with that sword of his. Those were always pretty epic battles. Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes were always my boys when it came to fighting time.
Well my prayers have been answered and now there’s a movie coming out that will hopefully bring to life the fantasies I played out as a youngling. I’m a little worried because Marlon Wayans is playing Rip Cord but I think I can let it slide because they got Dennis Quaid to play General Hawk. I wasn’t ready for Robert Downey Jr. to play Iron Man but he was a great surprise, hopefully this is more of the same.
Remember the Mortal Combat movie? Yea? Well that was amazing so hopefully this is the same (complete with badass electronic soundtrack so you and your friends can fire up that ghetto blaster and do a little sparring. I promise its not homo-erotic at all).
Release date is summer 2009. Start getting excited.

Lupe Fiasco, Character Approved
Wednesday, January 28, 2009
Lupe Fiasco has stood out from the start as something unique in the hip hop world. He doesn’t drink or smoke, claimed his first album was his third from last album and raps about skateboarding, drug dealers, waking from the dead, Islam and giant robots. In my world, Lupe may be the only kid cooler than The Cool Kids. Here’s an unreleased track from Lupe where he attempts to tackle misconceptions of Islam.
USA Network has announced the winners of the first-ever Character Approved Awards to honor individuals from a cross-section of creative disciplines who are positively influencing American culture. This years winner for Music is Chicago-born and raised hip-hop artist, Lupe Fiasco, who has won over legions of fans with his musical ingenuity and emphasis on strong lyricism and storytelling.

Matt & Kim – Grand
Monday, January 26, 2009

I have a lot of design work today so I did what I normally do when I know I’ll be putting extended hours in front of my computer; I got my hands on some new music. I did a quick look of new albums coming out and saw that Matt & Kim had a new album out entitled “Grand”. Whether you know it or not, you’ve probably heard a Matt & Kim song. They burst onto the music scene in 2006 with their song “Yea Yeah” and after a year or so it began being picked up by any company trying to seem “hip” or “relevant” to the 2000′s hipster culture.
Well it’s been 3 long years (well 2 for me because I didn’t really listen to them until 2007) since and I had to pick up their new album to see if they we’re still relevant. I am happy to report that although they may not be as relevant (the music climate has become even more electronically guided in the last few years), they still make great catchy sugar-rush-esque songs (three songs clock in under two minutes and a whole album worth of songs around 30 minutes long). It’s been described as punk music for happy people and I am inclined to agree. If you’re looking for something energetic to get you out of your winter blues, this is it. I got it a couple hours ago and I’ve already listened to it 3 times.
Enjoy the brand new “Daylight” and “Lessons Learned”.
Live Review: The Killers, Toronto
Saturday, January 24, 2009
The Killers played a show in Toronto last night promoting the release of their third studio album “Day & Age.” The show was truly exceptional due to a list of factors topped by the existence of frontman Brandon Flowers.
The set seemed to be a cheeky response to Las Vegas glamour with blatantly fake palm trees scattered around the stage, even more blatantly fake palm trees made of shiny plastic, a piano painted with an elementary drawing of the solar system and a centerpiece of a large K made out of light-bulbs.
Brandon Flowers was born to be a front man. All the other members of the band remained in their stage corners for the show while Flowers moved between his keyboard, piano and standing mic, interpretive dancing his way through impeccable lyrics.
Flowers came out singing “Spaceman” from their new album in skintight black pants, a black dress shirt, black vest, black blazer detailed with feathers coming off the shoulders (pictured up top) and intimidating army boots that climbed up to his shins.
Flowers is a beautiful man. He came out and one could not help but aspire to be more like him. You stand there in awe wishing your pants were as tight as his, wishing your outfit was as well chosen, wishing you could write lyrics so desperate, for this night you even wished you were a few inches shorter just to be more like Brandon.
Highlights of the show included “Neon Tiger” which was accompanied by a massive backdrop of black and white tiger print that spanned the length of the stage, which was removed as the song ended. “All These Things That I’ve Done” provided a pure moment of the entire crowd singing “I’ve got soul, but I’m not a soldier” while Flowers bowed his head away from the microphone. The encore ended with “When You Were Young” and a sincere thank you from the band for coming out to “celebrate together”.
It was an amazing show and The Killers are definitely a band worth seeing. Here’s some goodies for you below.
