Matt & Kim – Grand

Monday, January 26, 2009

I have a lot of design work today so I did what I normally do when I know I’ll be putting extended hours in front of my computer; I got my hands on some new music. I did a quick look of new albums coming out and saw that Matt & Kim had a new album out entitled “Grand”. Whether you know it or not, you’ve probably heard a Matt & Kim song. They burst onto the music scene in 2006 with their song “Yea Yeah” and after a year or so it began being picked up by any company trying to seem “hip” or “relevant” to the 2000′s hipster culture.

Well it’s been 3 long years (well 2 for me because I didn’t really listen to them until 2007) since and I had to pick up their new album to see if they we’re still relevant. I am happy to report that although they may not be as relevant (the music climate has become even more electronically guided in the last few years), they still make great catchy sugar-rush-esque songs (three songs clock in under two minutes and a whole album worth of songs around 30 minutes long). It’s been described as punk music for happy people and I am inclined to agree. If you’re looking for something energetic to get you out of your winter blues, this is it. I got it a couple hours ago and I’ve already listened to it 3 times.

Enjoy the brand new “Daylight” and “Lessons Learned”.
