While AJ was yuk’in it up with Seinfeld in Toronto, I was at a nightclub in Phoenix soaking up the musical stylings of the Italian DJ duo Crookers.
The night started out a bit rough with some shoddy directions and a semi-conscious BO-filled rickshaw ride to a rowdy line-up at club Myst. Yea, the name should have been the first clue that we might have been the only people there not looking to date rape someone or shake their friend to death in an attempt to dance (This one is hard to clarify but it is better left unexplained). Anyways, we got in after a little confusion with the bouncers and were able to start getting down to business.
The opening DJ was a balding house-head but he wasn’t that bad and did a good enough job to keep us excited for Crookers. At about 1 AM they finally hit the stage and the mood completely changed in the club. Spinning their signature fidgety and bouncy tunes they put together a great mix of their original songs, their remixes, club favorites, and songs I had never heard before. It’s always lame when a DJ crew spins too much shit you already know so the surprises were definitely appreciated. After about an hour and a half they ended with their surprise radio hit “Day N’ Nite” and sent the crowd home smiling. All in all, a great night with good friends. Next time we will try to avoid Myst
Here is one of their original tunes that they dropped so you can act like you were there (all you need now is dudes with soothers, lollipops, and glowsticks bumping into you and a few whores who think they can dance). Enjoy!
