Seinfeld played two of his four Toronto shows last night at Massey Hall. If you’re reading this in time, stop and figure out how you’re going to get tickets to see him tonight. The show was historical. From the moment he sprinted dramatically on stage one couldn’t help but smile. Hearing his voice live was surreal. Hours of sitting in front of your television watching Seinfeld suddenly came rushing through the forefront of your consciousness causing a single tear to descend.
Once everybody got over the fact that he does exist in three dimensions, the laughter was continuous. Seinfeld boasted 99% new material primarily based on his observations of everyday occurrences, staying true to his old material. As he flew threw material on self-righteous coffee drinkers, socially-inadequate Blackberry users and the poor domestic instincts of fathers, it was evident that he created the characters of his television show. Kramer, Elaine, George and Jerry came through on the stage as he ran back and forth during impressions of your life while throwing screaming tantrums on the lack of legitimacy of the 5 Day Forecast on the weather channel.
In his encore, he asked the crowd what they wanted to hear of his old material and also entertained questions. Here’s a couple of insider secrets. 1. His favourite character besides himself from his television show was Newman. 2. The entire cast of Seinfeld will be appearing on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm this season.
If you’re a fan and haven’t read it already, check out Jerry’s book “SeinLanguage“. It’s not quite his live show, but still an exceptional read.
