Live Review: Flight of the Conchords, Toronto

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Flight of the Conchords played Massey Hall last night in their first of two sold out and re-sold shows. They played a pretty solid show of songs from episodes, a few new ones and some excellent banter in between. The show was kicked off by an opening act from Eugene Mirman who you may know as Eugene the landlord on Flight of the Conchords. He played a subtle, witty, low energy set largely based on his hatred towards Delta Airlines for losing his bags.

Jemaine and Bret were completely in character, which made me think there is no alter-ego for them. Jemaine and Bret could really be just like Jemaine and Bret on HBO. From when they opened to “Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor” to closing with “Issues (Think about it)” it was evident Flight of the Conchords is concerned with the world today. Although Jemaine seemed to be dominating in terms of stage presence especially with his exceptional dance moves both boys had their moments. Looking forward to season 3 of Flight of the Conchords and some sugar lumps.

Here’s some of my favourite Flight of the Conchords songs:
