Major Lazer is the new production superdupergroup made up of Switch and Diplo. You’ve heard us talk about both so you should immediately be excited. These are two of the biggest names in the DJ world teaming up for world domination.
They released thier first song “Zumbi” to the blog world with little acclaim. It was kind of a disappointment as it was more of a joke song (Andy Milonakas raps through the entire things saying things like “Me a Zombie/ Me eat your brains”) than something you would expect from DJ royalty.
ANYWAYS, they have recently released another song entitled “Hold the Line” and it completely makes up for the previous wrongdoing and re-invigorates my excitement for their debut album, Guns Don’t Kill People-Lazers Do (drops June 16th on Downtown Records). This particular song features Santogold in her least annoying state I’ve ever heard and sounds like nothing out there. Once that surf guitar comes in you know you’re not getting what you expected. Minimal bass stabs, whackdeezy Jamacian dancehall influenced vocals, and even horse cries round out the song and create something really special.
