It’s not the most eloquent acronym, but it is the manifesto tied to Lupe’s upcoming album L.A.S.E.R.S. Check out some of Lupe’s political beliefs and get excited for L.A.S.E.R.S. and/or L.U.P.end. Check out wearenotlosers.com for some more information.
Speculative Sidenote: L.U.P.end is going to be a 3 disc album. The discs will be called: Everywhere, Nowhere & Down Here.
Here’s a phenomenal track with Lupe and Mathew Santos that is supposed to come out on L.A.S.E.R.S. Be good.

Yesterday I posted this song with a little blurb full of hater-ade toward Bernard Madoff. Wasn’t very Handsome. We like to focus on the good things in life and maintain composure in the most dire of situations. It’s the Handsome way.
However, there is still is nothing like some good ol’ fashioned comeuppance.
Enjoy one of our favorite Passion Pit songs and be reminded that while there are are people that bring humanity down, there’s crushing beauty hiding around every corner.

Couldn’t leave everyone hanging on a Monday without some music. It’s a little late but should be in time for west coasters to BBQ to and east coasters to drift to sleep to. This song fits perfectly for both those situations and pretty much any other you can dream up.
It’s smooth and relaxing but it also makes you want to dance. Not many songs can work on those two seemingly disparate levels. Make sure to put Mackintosh Braun on your radar, their next CD could be a doozy.
(Thanks to Kate for finding this bad boy!)

Nike has always impressed me as a brand playing both ends of the market. They come out with shoes at the lowest price point that are sold internationally as well as dropping limited edition kicks for $300, which are still respected by sneakerheads around the world. I’m not sure how they’ve managed to dominate in both markets under the same logo, but they do it exceptionally well.
Check out the above video of a pretty badass Nike commercial directed by Carl Rinsch. Also check out these murdered out Jordan 1 Oestrich Editions that are coming out. Yes, they are made out of oestrich. They drop July 7th and you can grab them at RMK.
Another contender in the battle between electro and dubstep/bassline for supremacy of electronic music enters the ring with B. Rich‘s latest remix.
After electro’s dominance over the past 5 years everyone has been wondering “what’s next?” As an electro-centric DJ myself, I sometimes wonder the same thing. For a long time people have been saying disco was the next to supercede but I never bought into that theory. Obviously, electro will never die and it’s dangerous territory to even splinter electronic music into these hard to define genres, but I’d say that over the past few months dubstep/bassline has made a strong case for next big genre.
Artists like A1 Bassline, B. Rich, AC Slater, Doorly, and Jack Beats are dropping amazing songs and remixes left and right spreading the gospel of dubstep/bassline and it’s safe to say I’m a believer.
Grab this latest mix of La Roux’s “Tigerlilly” and learn why.

My musical tastes always change during the summer months. The face melting electro that I normally favor falls to the backburner and out emerges the glistening easy listening tunes.
One of my older (only in blog terms. It’s only been released for 3 months) summery flavored favorites recently got a fresh new remix from Kap10Kurt and it has re-invigorated my love of “Teenage Suicide”. Now the more perceptive of you readers are probably wondering why a song about young people killing themselves is a favorite “summer tune”. I’m wondering the same thing. At least it’s telling kids not to do it instead of encouraging it.
It’s just one of those songs that you want to close your eyes to and stare at the sun while lying in a field of flowers (hopefully inhabited by magical gnomes that grant you wishes). Kap10Kurt takes the original and turns it into a cruising tune with warm synths and a reliable head bobbing beat.
Suicide never sounded so good.

I wasn’t going to make a Michael Jackson post until I got a little e-mail from VIKING and CJ Milli with a little tribute they cooked up over the last 24 hours.
It’s a chillin’ take on Bag Raiders ‘Shooting Stars’ up against the acapella from MJ’s ‘You Are Not Alone.’ The two fit really well together and create the perfect soundtrack to raise a beer to and remember the legend (not the freak).

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to see two US ex-presidents speak about their time in office. I thought to myself, this is a historic event in my life. As I listened to old MJ albums prepping for his comeback tour, I thought to myself, the concert will be the single most historic event of my life to date.
Michael Jackson dies a legend. His life is of significance beyond billions of others. As I contemplated the significance of his life and death, I chose to focus on the positive that he achieved and his capacity to inspire others. To achieve his level of success, one cannot exist anywhere inside the box. There has to be something fundamentally different in you as an individual to influence and lead so many people in life.
Although some choose to criticize even moments after his untimely death, it’s important to take a moment and appreciate how exceptional Michael Jackson was. Travel the world, even to developing nations and you can see the King of Pop worshiped. Thriller still holds the record for most albums sold (65 million), 27 years after it’s release. He has sold 750 million albums in his lifetime.
Next time you’re watching kids moon walking and crotch grabbing, don’t undermine the significance of these moves. Ask yourself instead, what musical artist has been of more significance to this world?

Not only was Handsome part of NXNE this year, but we also had a photographer at the scene and wanted to share some of the performance shots with you guys. We have pictures of TMDP, Kidstreet, Empire Isis and Viking peforming as well as a few others. Here’s a couple and you can check out the portfolio from the weekend at our Flickr account.
I was having a talk with a Toronto artist this week about the current state of rap. He was telling me about how he was growing out of rap and his listening time was being delegated outside the genre. “I still listen to the fundamentals like Wu Tang” he specified. After years in rap, Wu Tang still manages to keep the respect of their fan base and turn down the prospect of a commercial shift. Their new single “Evil Deeds” is true to the grimy, profanity infused, Wu Tang style we’ve grown to love. Peep the new single with Ghostface Killah, RZA and Havoc while we prep for their new album.
