Discovery – Your New Favorite Band For The Summer

discovery

Yea I know that’s a bold statement but let me explain.

Discovery is the new electronically flavored side project of indie-heads Rostam Batmanglij (of Vampire Weekend) and Wes Miles (of Ra Ra Riot).

If auto-tune is dead no one told these kids. I know what you’re thinking “Fuck… not more turd nuggets abusing a classic staple of electronic music without any knowledge on how to properly us it.” Trust; I am pretty much as big of a hater on Kanye as you can get (I find 808s & Heartbreaks nearly un-listenable), but these guys use auto-tune to compliment their music, not rely on it as a crutch. This album goes way beyond the auto-tune though. It is full of original and inventive sounds and rhythms that positively shine.

That is why this band is perfectly made for the summer. They are the sangria and tapas of musical groups. Light fare best enjoyed in the sunshine on a beach.

Below are three choice songs. “Swing Tree” is probably their strongest song that should give you a good idea of what to expect. Make sure to check out the rest of the album because their are plenty of worthwhile songs (including a remake of Jackson 5′s “I Want You Back”).
