Another contender in the battle between electro and dubstep/bassline for supremacy of electronic music enters the ring with B. Rich‘s latest remix.

After electro’s dominance over the past 5 years everyone has been wondering “what’s next?” As an electro-centric DJ myself, I sometimes wonder the same thing. For a long time people have been saying disco was the next to supercede but I never bought into that theory. Obviously, electro will never die and it’s dangerous territory to even splinter electronic music into these hard to define genres, but I’d say that over the past few months dubstep/bassline has made a strong case for next big genre.

Artists like A1 Bassline, B. Rich, AC Slater, Doorly, and Jack Beats are dropping amazing songs and remixes left and right spreading the gospel of dubstep/bassline and it’s safe to say I’m a believer.

Grab this latest mix of La Roux’s “Tigerlilly” and learn why.

as an electro-centric dj who started dj’ing actively about 3 years ago, i wonder that same thing, and i would tend to go for the disco / 80ies synth direction. sure dubstep is growing, but i don’t think it’s the same demographic. electro cut deep into the techno/house worn-out hipster demographic who may have been worn out/bored by up and coming berlin/minimal music (it might have to do with a decline of ectasy usage). that said electro will still give a party a late night edge, but thats when people start to focus on beats anyways and care less about ‘music’.
great blog btw, keep it up!

    Hey clmns,

Thanks for the kind words. I have to say I completely understand your feelings of the disco/80s synth sound and I am a huge fan of it (I’m guessing your talking about the sound some of my favorites like Futurecop! and Treasure Fingers).

I guess I’m just excited to see the big changes that have been going on in dubstep to bring in more vocals and playing with different sounds more.

P.S. Your comment about the decline of drug usage made me realize there should be a graph showing the relationship between the decline of ecstasy usage and the need for vocals in songs.
