Tron Legacy Trailer

Thursday, July 30, 2009

The sequel to Disney’s visually groundbreaking Tron (now called Tron Legacy) recently released their trailer and we couldn’t leave any other Tron fans out there in the dark. It looks like this movie will mimic the first and push visuals and style to the modern limit.

Albeit impressive, I am worried about a couple things:

- The new helmets are questionable. What was wrong with the old hockey helmets and some glow stick piping? Now they look like the toolshed that brings his helmet to class to make very clear to females that he rides two wheels instead of four and is therefore muy dangeroso.

- These new images are super slick and Hollywood-ized. One of my favorite parts of the old Tron was the graininess and distortion that came through with the filming technique they used. This has scary potential to be like the remake of Speed Racer with that kid who looks like he’s ten years old from Girl Next Door.

Despite these worries there are just so many potential upsides, the most glaring of them being the fact that Daft Punk is doing the soundtrack. Check out the video below to listen to the theme song they crafted and watch some Tron uber-nerds see a bike from the movie. SPOILER: They collectively lose their shit.
