Delphic

Delphic | Handsome Clothing Co.

It’s no secret that I am a big fan of French label Kitsune. They consistently bring fresh music that covers all kinds of genres. One of their latest signings, Delphic, has recently caught my attention, thusly, dominating my speakers.

The best way to describe Delphic is a couple of English lads that make synth-laden indie-pop-rock. Pretty much a whole amalgamation of good stuff. “Counterpoint” is an energetic tune that sounds like something U2′s guitarist The Edge (Tangent: Who has the balls to name themselves The Edge? I’m going to start calling myself The Christian) would make if he played synths instead of guitar. “This Momentary” is a little more dreamy but still has the higher BPM’s to keep it exciting and rolling. Another great new talent to keep your ears out for.

The Bloody Beetroots & The Cool Kids – Awesome

Bloody Beetroots | Handsome Clothing Co.

Normally, we only post the best of the best music out there, but I think this song is more interesting than ‘awesome’.

I used to be a huge fan of The Bloody Beetroots but they’re sound has gotten a little stale and repetitive. That’s not to say I dislike their songs, but I wish they would branch out a little. I would say they are trying to do that bringing in the vocal stylings of Mikey Rocks and Chuck English of The Cool Kids, but the buzz saw synths are still there and it’s not much of a departure from they’re signature sound.

Saying that, I think The Cool Kids are still on top of their game in this track and remain one of the few hopes of rap music remaining relevant. I can’t say this is my favorite track of the moment but these are two big names getting together and the results are definitely worth a listen.

Exceptional Artist: Chris Pell

chrispell_1 | Handsome Clothing Co.

Recently, I celebrated my birthday and my girlfriend, being the extremely great and attractive and generous person she is, got me an original Chris Pell drawing. Not only is it an original and signed, but it was made specifically for me! She sent him a list of things I admire and he picked one of those things (unicorns) and drew a picture depicting a “little child catching his first unicorn! The unicorn however is hoping to be saved by the birds of the forest.” I absolutely love it.

For those of you who don’t know, Chris Pell is a young up and coming illustrator/photographer from the UK. He enjoys fantasy worlds/alchemy/soca music/mysticism/the internet/horror movies/sparse marshlands/medieval armour/elaborate quests and cats.

Check out a close up of the pic as well as some of his other work below. Also, make sure to go to his website and support some great talent.

Delorean – Your New(er) Favorite Band For the Summer

Monday, July 6, 2009

delorean | Handsome Clothing Co.

I know I claimed Discovery as your new favorite band for the summer just last month but we live in a great time for music and new talented bands are popping up all the time. The latest that fits perfectly with these sun drenched days is Delorean.

Dare I say that Delorean’s new EP “Ayrton Senna” has even replaced The Tough Alliance as some of my favorite music to relax to (don’t worry Bob Marley… you’re still number one). It’s colorful electro-pop at its finest. Every song is laced with light & spacey atmospherics, dance influenced beats, and innocent lyrics talking about dreaming, the sun, new beginnings, etc. It may sound contrite but the instrumentation is so fresh that you don’t mind hearing things you may have heard many times before.

Below are two of my favorites. (Sorry no previews – the site is acting up. All of them are hosted on MediaFire)

BONUS: Below are a bunch of other songs that have something to do with Delorean getting remixed or doing the remixing.

BONUS BONUS: They also have released a mix that EVERYONE needs to download. If you don’t like it, you don’t like good music.

AutoErotique, Aoki, and DJ AM All Get Gladiator On Your Face

Sunday, July 5, 2009

autoerotique | Handsome Clothing Co.

One of my favorite songs from back in the day (AutoErotique’s “Gladiator” [I was actually the first person to post it on the internet and ended up getting in a little trouble for it, Sorry guys!]) is getting the remix treatment from some very big names, and I thought it would be a good idea to share the news with all you handsome people.

AutoErotique are local Toronto boys that have been on our radar all the way back when they used to go by the name of VND/LSM. They have blown up big time since then, signing to DIM MAK and remixing well known artists such as Shinichi Osawa, Lykke Li, Chris Cornell, Fischerspooner, and even Diplo & Laidback Luke.

Yes, they are the real deal. Check out this remix Steve Aoki and DJ AM did of the song. Definitely my favorite of the bunch that will be released soon.

BONUS: Below is the first tracks that introduced me to VND/LSM-AutoErotique. Remixes of Rihanna and Beyonce and they are still able to make them bangin’. That’s what we call talent. If you like your songs with a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor make sure to check out “Hey You Hey Me”; you won’t be disappointed.

MSTRKRFT – Heartbreaker (Ft. John Legend) (Laidback Luke Remix)

Friday, July 3, 2009

mwmgraphics | Handsome Clothing Co.

When I first started DJ’ing, MSTRKRFT and Laidback Luke were the new kids on the block. It’s been great to see them become household names in the electronic scene since then and now team up on this latest remix. Although I was supremely disappointed by MSTRKRFT’s attempt at an album this past year, “Heartbreaker” featuring the famous crooner John legend, was a welcome bright spot. Now Laidback Luke has taken that song, added some of his housey synths and sensibilities, and made it a d-floor rager.

Happy 4th of July

OC American Flag

Opening Ceremony has been one of our favourite brands and favourite retail spaces since the day we discovered them. We were pretty enthused when their retail space went online, which brought some exceptional international brands to our cities including Opening Ceremony’s in-house line. To celebrate July 4th this year, Opening Ceremony has dropped some new colourways on their Flag T-shirt including the above glow-in-the-dark pink version. Think about it, July 4th, America, fireworks, celebrating and you’re the one who’s glowing in the dark in an act of patriotism. I don’t think you’re gonna be the guy without an abundance of friends this July 4th.

Foamo Makes It Wobble

Thursday, July 2, 2009

billboards | Handsome Clothing Co.

Wobble bass (or bassline or whatever you want to call it) has been dominating my playlists recently. I can’t seem to get enough of it. Artists like Foamo are to blame for this new phenomenon.

Recently, he took a stab at remixing the hottest song on the block, Diplo & Laidback Luke’s “Hey” (released later this month… July 16th I believe). Also, he did a great remix of Bulletproof by an English lady not unfamiliar around these Handsome parts, La Roux. Both are choice cuts. Watch out for this guy, he’s making waves quick.

Dee & Ricky

dee & ricky

I read an article about Dee and Ricky in Nylon a while back and I was pretty intrigued. They’re twins who grew up in a Staten Island housing project, snuck into an “arsty” party in the Hamptons wearing some homemade accessories and consequently were discovered by Marc Jacobs. They’re best known for their lego accessories and have collaborated with Marc Jacobs and Billionaire Boys Club.

They are the dream. They’re a couple of kids who were just doing what they loved, were discovered and now they’re doing what they love on a large scale. Hypebeast’s newest Feature is an interview with the twins. Enjoy and educate yourself.
