So after my post about The Drums a few days ago I really haven’t listened to anything else. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to post any new music until I had gotten sick of them, but after doing more research into the band and their roots, I have found that one of the founding members (Jon Pierce) was the singer of a band I enjoyed a few years ago, Elkland.
Now the two bands sound nothing alike, Elkland can be described as a New Wave band from the future, but there is still a heavy pop influence that they share. During this time the other member of The Drums, Jacob Graham, was in a band called Flashlight Party down in Florida. I cant find any songs by them so check out their myspace if you’re interested. I guess the two realized how similar their sound was and came together to form Goat Explosion, the predecessor to The Drums. Sounding exactly like how you would imagine the combo between Elkland & Flashlight Party, Goat Explosion is a fine slice of new wave pop. I guess the two got tired of the sound and name and then became The Drums. The rest is recent history…
So if you’ve already bought The Drums album and are wearing it thin, try out these two predecessors.

FUN FACT: If you look at the line-up for each of these earlier bands it looks like the lead singers of both bands had their brothers back them up as drummers.
