There’s something about Austin, Texas. Wolfgang Gartner, Dubbel Dutch, and my latest favorite, Harlem, have all emerged from the lesser known Texas town (compared to The Big D).
It’s odd to include Harlem with the likes of the previous electro heavy artists as these two make garage-rock that actually sounds like it was made in the garage (ie. not only is the sound lo-fi but its fun). With a song titled “Gay Human Bones”, how can it not be fun?
Here are two quotes by the two members of Harlem that should pique your interest:
1. “When kids are jumping on the bed playing tennis rackets like guitars. We are the music that is playing in their brains.”
2. “The only band we like is Nirvana. The only album we like is Nevermind. The only song we like is Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
Below is “South of France” off their previous album “Hippies” and “Gay Human Bones” off their new album “Free Drugs ;- )” which is was released today on iTunes.
