The Walmer Loft

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Aside from being my dream home, The Walmer Loft, designed by Dubbledam Design Architects, is an exploration in light, space, and renovation.

Via The Contemporist:

“Overlooking Toronto’s historic Casa Loma Stables, this 1920s duplex was converted from a group of small, dark rooms into a graphic designer’s residential loft. The renovation was designed to retain the charm of the building’s historic exterior, while transforming its interior for contemporary living with clean lines, open space, increased natural light and specifically framed interior and exterior views.”

Juergen Teller and Missoni

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

FW’11 fashion shows kicked off over the weekend in Milan. Missoni, the Italian house known for their incredible (incredible!) knitwear, used photographs by Juergen Teller in their set.

Teller was commissioned by the iconic family to photograph them during a beautiful and Missoni-filled (3 generations-filled) dinner. The images will be used in the company’s SS ’10 marketing campaign.

After thought: Personifying a brand using its driving force (i.e. creative director) is a trick mastered by the likes of Coco Chanel and Tom Ford. We see Missoni embrace this approach.

Danger’s 09/17 2007 EP

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Danger‘s “09/17 2007″ EP is out on vinyl on January 25th & digitally on February 1st, and to celebrate the occasion he is offering his song “4h30″ up for free. Even if you don’t know him, you should be excited.

Danger rose to everyone’s “must watch” lists when he released his song “11h30″ back in 2007. Sounding like the genius lovechild of Justice and Kavinsky, Danger proved there was room for more than just two masked French electronic producers in the world.

“4h30″ sounds like the music that should have been played during that badass ninja training 90s montage in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (you know the one, when they’re all sad because they don’t where Splinter is). Come to think of it, his costume kind of looks like a one of the footsoldiers for Shredder without the bandana. Anyways, all I’m really trying to say is that “4h30″ is incredibly good and largely cinematic. Get it and don’t forget to check out the teaser video below that makes me nostalgic for all the hours (not) wasted inside arcades during the 90s.

Important/Little known facts about Danger:
- He was a graphic designer before pursuing music, however, he still makes/designs the visuals for the Danger project
- He conducts all interviews for Danger in full mask and uniform
- All song names are times because: “We can say that I think that one hour is as evocative as an emotional feeling or a literary classic (book). I’ve lived my life to pay attention to the time & honestly found that the door to a 20:45 or a 14h is within & of themselves, altogether with the feelings involved…”

Panerai Mare Nostrum

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Panerai reintroduces the WWII-era Mare Nostrum for 2010. “The watch is a stunning tribute to original complete with the same monstrous stainless steel 52mm case and olive green canvas strap.”

With a price tag of $36,000 and a 52mm case, one presumes the watch is made for a big friendly giant with disposable income and a penchant for WWII history.

La Maîtresse de la Tour Eiffel (World’s Largest Discoball)

Monday, January 18, 2010

France.

Nuit Blanche, City of Paris

Mirror ball, 1000 mirrors, 7.5 meters in diameter.
The spectacular view of the starry sky has long been a source of delight and curiosity, but the abundance of artificial light in urban areas produces a glow that covers the stars in the firmament. The largest mirror ball ever made was suspended from a construction crane 50 meters above the ground to render the starry sky to the citizens of Paris for one night in the Jardin du Luxembourg during the Nuit Blanche event.

Edu K – Jumpin N Pumpin (Dubbel Dutch Remix)

Sunday, January 17, 2010

In our year end wrap-up for 2009, I claimed that Dubbel Dutch had the best remix of the year and I still stand by it. Well, he has released another remix to the blog world and it’s fresh to death. There’s a real 90s influence working throughout and therefore it is very fitting to call this one “fresh to death”. It is different from your average club banger but that brass section snippet is enough to incite rigorous dance moves.
