Kid Cudi – Know Why

Sunday, February 28, 2010

We have to admit, pretty much every track Kid Cudi puts out makes its way onto the blog. Even his older tracks have exceptional verses so we can’t resist. The guy is gifted.

Know Why made its way out over the weekend and it’s definitely worth some listening. Word is this track was produced by Dot Da Genius in 2008.

Dunhill Key Watch

Sunday, February 28, 2010

After doing some reading on Dunhill and their new creative director, Kim Jones, I noticed he was wearing this exceptional piece in a GQ photoshoot. The Key Watch was dug up from the Dunhill archives with some slight modifications from the 1937 original.

Details: The watch casing is made of sterling silver, but for the key portion, brass was used for strength so as not to break off in the lock. The timepiece movement is provided by Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Gitman Vintage

Saturday, February 27, 2010

History repeats itself. What’s old is new again. Inspired by their 1984 collection, Gitman Vintage’s Spring / Summer 2010 collection stays true to their craft, incorporating locker-loops, chalk buttons, and original double-track stitching. Updated color ways and a contemporary fit make these classic American shirts a personal favorite.

Bonus: In an interview for their Eye to Eye series, the good people at Context Clothing give us a in-depth look at the philosophy and operations that is Gitman Vintage.

Via Context:

Ryan:
I’m glad we finally found time to talk shirt production. Sam and I talk daily with our clients about denim weaving processes and dye techniques not to mention how the rhythm in the floor boards of old fabric mills aided to the irregularity of the weave. I am fascinated with the story behind the garment. Lets look at the nuts and bolts of a shirt, the details, what makes a Gitman Vintage shirt a Gitman Vintage?

Chris:
First and foremost, I think the shirt is a much less complicated species than denim. There are a couple of differences in a Gitman Vintage shirt that are most immediate. The first is, unlike an Italian made shirt, an American made shirt most often and with Gitman, all of the time uses a double needle. Double needle on the side seems and double needle throughout. This is something that is built for the American laundering process, its a bit more of a rugged shirt and more substantial.

New Kavinsky EP “Nightcall”

Kavinsky Nightcall EP | Handsome Clothing Co.

One of our favorite musical artists, Kavinsky, is getting ready to release his new album and as an appetizer he will be releasing an EP titled “Nightcall” on March 15th.

‘Nightcall’ is the first song Kavinsky provides vocals for, a duet you might say, featuring the zombie and his girlfriend, a.k.a. Lovefoxxx from CSS. Oh, AND the song was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (1/2 of Daft Punk) and mixed by SebastiAn. That’s a whole lot of talent on one song.

The song still has that 1980s sound that Kavinsky originally became famous for but instead of the fast paced cocaine & Ferrari’s sound of ‘Testarossa Autodrive” we get a slower and more melodic piece which is reminiscent of Sebastien Tellier.

Make sure to go to Kavinsky’s MySpace and check out a preview of the song. It has everyone here at Handsome VERY excited for future Kavinsky releases ahead.

Tracklisting for ‘Nightcall’ EP:
A1 Nightcall
A2 Pacific Coast Highway
B1 Nightcall (Dustin Nguyen Remix)
B2 Pacific Coast Highway (Jackson Remix)

Supra NS Spring 2010 Collection

Friday, February 26, 2010

Supra released pictures of its new “non-skate” line of shoes recently and they look excellent. Instead of continuing on a destructive path of making the most over-the-top shoe imaginable (I even have a pair of their garish gold leather skytops), the brand has returned to basics and created two brand new simple and classic silhouettes. The Cuttler is a high top sneaker and it comes in black leather and grey canvas. The Assault is a low top sneaker and it will be released in Black Full-grain, White Canvas, Grey Canvas and Navy Gingham throughout March and April.

I’ll have the black canvas hi-tops and the white canvas low-tops please and thank you.

More pics (thanks to highsnobiety) after the jump.

Starscream

Starscream | Handsome Clothing Co.

Starscream are great. Who knows if any of the thousands of people who read this blog actually care about chiptune music as much as me but I’m here to say that, if you don’t, you should. Chiptune is a genre of music that is still largely in its infancy but is constantly advancing to more interesting heights.

Maybe I spent way too much time on my NES and gameboy back in the day, but when I listen to Starscream’s “Gravity in Terms of Space-Time” a rush of nostalgia comes over me and takes me to a happy place full of killing zombies and collecting worthless shiny coins.

Starscream have a bunch of shows coming up in March on the east coast of the states so check their MySpace for any shows near you.

Chinese Christmas Cards

Chinese Christmas Cards | Handsome Clothing Co.

Last night we got an e-mail from Chinese Christmas Cards with the picture above and their new single “Welcome To Life” attached. With a name and picture like that how could we not check them out? Well, we’re glad we did because we now have some excellent impossibly saccharin pop music from Spain to enjoy.

Yeah, it kind of sounds like they stole the hook from “Walk On By” by 1980s three-hit-wonder Dire Straits and the lyrics are so innocent and life-loving it sounds perfect for a new feel-good family reality TV show on TLC, but if you aren’t intent on being a depressing hipster loser paralyzed by worries of how people will perceive you, this could be the perfect song to get your day started. This guys accent is almost as good as the singer for OMC (the guys who did 90s one-hit-wonder “How Bizarre”… that’s a big compliment).

Star Wars Vs. Dubstep Courtesy of Torontonian’s Zeds Dead

Darth Vader Misfits | Handsome Clothing Co.

I have to post this song. I like Star Wars, Toronto, and Dubstep way too much to ignore this perfect combination of all three. Anyone who turns Darth Vaders’ famous mechanical breathing into such an insane beat deserves some major praise. Zeds Dead continue to slaughter dancefloors and make Toronto proud.

If you’re in Toronto make sure to catch them March 24 at Wrongbar with Caspa.

Review: The Temper Trap – Conditions

Sunday, February 21, 2010

In an interview with Dougie Mandagi, lead singer of The Temper Trap, he outlined Radiohead, Prince, Massive Attack and U2 as the key influences in the band’s recording of Conditions, their first LP. That’s a pretty accurate idea of what to expect sound-wise when listening to the record. They seem to take some of the great attributes of those artists, and mesh them together for their distinct Australian-spawned sound. U2-esque riffs, Prince’s summer day pop songs and Radioheads’ eerie instrumental come together to create Conditions.

After hearing their track Sweet Disposition for the first time in (500) Days of Summer, the band impresses with a wide range of style on their first full length. Standout tracks include Sweet Disposition, Love Lost and Down River.
