We haven’t posted any pounding electro in awhile so I thought I’d update this space with a couple songs that we have been enjoying when we go out.
First up is a giant Dada Life remix of Dan Black’s hugely popular “Symphonies” featuring Kid Cudi. These Swedes are always able to perfectly balance dangerously-close-to-being-cheesy-trance-sounds with turn-this-up-to-11-mind-bending-relentless-electro. I can’t wait to play this out somewhere.

Also, I want to call attention to one of Autoerotique‘s new remixes that I dropped this past Thursday and received a great response from the d-floor. Canada may not be doing it big at the Olympics but we’re still killing it when it comes to music. The song below is 128 kbps which is good enough for listening at home, but everyone knows real DJs play 320 kbps, so go buy it and feel good that you supported good music.

I came across Jaime Hayon and his exceptional work recently. The skater-based artist complimented his natural talent with a degree in industrial design, which resulted in his amazing and unique aesthetic. Here’s a little excerpt from his bio. Continue reading for a glimpse at more of his work.
Jaime Hayón Spanish artist-designer Jaime Hayon was born in Madrid in 1974. As a teenager, he submerged himself in skateboard culture and graffiti art, the foundation of the detailed, bold-yet-whimsical imagery so imminent in his work today…Jaime further defined his vision in subsequent solo exhibitions and shows at London’s Aram Gallery, and Milan’s Salone de Mobile and his work has been displayed in Germany’s Vitra Museum, London’s Design Museum, Rotterdam’s Vivid Gallery, the Gronginger Museum (also in Holland) and the Basel Art Fair and has attracted the attention of prestigious art collectors.
Vampire Weekend released a video for their new single off Contra. The Giving Up The Gun music video reveals an excellent track from the album with some great visual content to match. Check out the entertaining and stylish tennis video with a few guest appearances including Jake Gyllenhall, Joe Jonas, RZA and Lil Jon.
Angels & Airwaves recently announced a forty day tour in promotion of their new album, LOVE. LOVE stays true to the classic AVA sound with content even more hopeful and epic than their previous releases. We’re big supporters of their vision and consistently positive message. Check out the album for download here. Hopefully it’ll keep you tied over until their outer space movie drops later this year. Here’s some insight from Tom on LOVE.
“We loved the idea of esoteric symbolism — geometric shapes hold an energy pattern. When a human looks at a shape, they instantly receive energy from their mind. So we reworked the geometric shape of the symbols in the word “love,” so when people see that word it instantly provides certain energy.”
Acne continues to be awesome with their biker inspired jean jacket. The cropped biker-cut jacket is available in blue or black denim. The combination of two things classic makes for a tasteful and forward piece for the coming spring/summer. The jacket is available now through Acne.
This is for the writer in you that also happens to be aesthetic detail obsessed. Stationary company Smythson, artist André and retailer Colette have gotten together on this journal. The hardbound, black book features gold detailing of André’s art on the front and the marks of the three companies stamped on the back. The piece is available through Colette. Here’s a little history on Smythson.
September 29th 1887, Frank Smythson started a high quality and eponymous stationery line using the highest quality leather. 122 years later, and after producing for the imperial Japanese family, and governors from Bombay, Bengal, and Madras, among others, find the famous notebooks, with evocative titles and subtle colors, exclusively at colette for France.
The front cover artwork and detailed pictures ahead. (more…)
Band of Outsiders shows off some of their Spring/Summer 2010 pieces. The brand is consistent in making exceptional quality, simple aesthetic clothes for the oxford shirt, topsider-wearing man in you. Assuming that’s what you’re after, the pieces are well worth the investment.
Timex has been an exceptional watch choice from a young age. You can grab a simple, classic, functionally designed watch for under a hundred dollars. A couple of years ago in celebration of their 50th anniversary, Timex re-released the Timex 80 model, which has been popping up at exceptional retailers including Opening Ceremony, Liberty, Steven Allan and Barneys Co-op.
The initial tonal collection has spawned a series of remixed watches. Variations have included the Jumbo in collaboration with Opening Ceremony and a limited edition colourway by artist JK5. Most recently for Spring 2010, Timex releases the Rainbow Collection, which features the classic model in a few multi-colour options. Check out more choices of the Timex 80 ahead.
Listen to me when I say Nocando is the world’s new hope for rap music (he can share this title along with Kid Cudi). Whereas most rappers (Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Common, Mos Def) have settled into their comfortable niche in the rap world, we have to keep our ear to the ground to find out who is going to push everyone forward. When you kneel down and press your lobe onto the cold concrete of the streets you will most likely hear Nocando’s frequencies infecting your mind.
I first heard “Hurry Up and Wait” last night and immediately knew it was something special. Although it does share some similarities with Weezy’s “A Milli”, I prefer “Hurry Up & Wait” tenfold. The next-level production/beats, clever lyrics, and inexplicable flow that you hope for in rap are all here. After you check this make sure to get the rest of the CD that features songs produced by Handsome favorite’s Nosaj Thing and Daedelus. Almost every song has something new and exciting going on (listen to his song “2 Track Mind” featuring Busdriver that has one of the most weirdly catchy choruses I’ve heard… video included after the jump).
Welcome to the future.

One of our favorite record companies, Neon Gold Beat Company, are releasing two new Penguin Prison songs on March 22nd and to get everyone excited they are offering one of songs up for free. “Something I’m Not” is a bit different from the super pop we have come to expect from PP and I couldn’t be happier. With this tune he really proves that he has a range most artists that come up through the blogs don’t possess.
Don’t get me wrong, this is still very much pop music but it’s pop music you have never heard before. Sounds kind of like future-Justin Timberlake-rap with strong 80s influences. Confused? Listen to the song.
