Giles & Brother is a jewelery company based out of New York with a distinct aesthetic in a growing and competitive industry. They’re doing a great job with man jewelery and besides their presence in exceptional retailers such as Odin New York they’ve also got a stocked online store. Check out their use of some classic American hardware including railroad spikes, nuts, bolts and hooks.
Some of our favourite necklaces and bracelets are ahead.
Two of our favourite designers have gotten together on a line and the result is phenomenal. Robert Geller and Common Projects have created a great collection that does justice to the strengths of both brands. More pictures of the lookbook created by Peter Poopat ahead.
“The idea was a cross-collaboration, where the Robert Geller crew designed leather goods; boots, a bag and belt, and Common Projects designed the clothes. Each brand would then produce the pieces the other brand designed. The result is the perfect outfit to take on a trip: A hat, trenchcoach, button up shirt, slim pant, razor thin belt, leather boots with removable spat and a suede weekend bag.”
We love supporting local Toronto acts so it is with great pleasure we share with you the new single from Tokyo Police Club. I should mention the band says their from Toronto but Wikipedia claims they are from Newmarket. Having visited Newmarket in the past I know why they would try to hide this and claim allegiance to TO.
We were lucky enough to attend a University just outside of Toronto where one of the clubs would get TPC to play at least 2 times a year. We would regularly make it out to catch their shows (if you’re reading this Tokyo Police Club, I apologize for getting in a fight during one of your sets in Kingston).
With “Breakneck Speed” they reveal a more matured sound (which is only natural considering they released their first EP when they looked like they were 13) and, despite the name of the song, have slowed down a little. The song is dangerously radio friendly so if you live in Toronto expect this to be played on The Edge 102.1 a whole hell of a lot this summer. If your wondering what Tokyo Police Club have been up to since their breakout album “A Lesson in Crime” be sure to check out the video below. Their new album “Champ” will be coming out in the spring of 2010.

The Spanish group’s new LP “Subiza” hit iTunes today and it is the perfect soundtrack for a summer spent under the warm sun having drinks on beaches/patios and remembering why you even bother suffering through below zero temperatures, icey sidewalks, delayed flights, and your snot freezing to your face while shoveling your car from under five feet of snow (I still harbor some bitter memories of Canadian & Minnesotan winters).
“Stay Close” is their first single and it picks up right where their last EP (which was basically the soundtrack to our entire last summer) left off. This is dance music for the beach instead of the club. More balmy than sweaty; more vibrant than hazy; more crisp glass of ice water than double vodka tonic.

Williamsburg, NY is ground zero for hipsterdom/fauxhemians (or at the very least patient 0 resided here). It is also home to a much hyped band named Freelance Whales. They are deserving of this hype because of their song “Generator ^ First Floor”. Their band name and song titles remind me of Arcade Fire. Generator ^ First Floor is a deceptively intimate song with a wonderful use of the banjo and chanting vocals. Play this song for your girlfriend/significant other. Prepare to be kissed/hugged.
Aislyn is also from NYC. The duo is made up of one of the members of Passion Pit and his girlfriend. Aislyn sounds like: “a subdued Twitter-generation update of ’90s-era guy-girl electronic-pop—like a kinder, gentler version of Portishead.” – straight.com. They bump up the drama, the electronics, the atmospherics, and the run time while cutting the banjo sound to create a version that fits well with the Penguin Prison‘s and Flow Child‘s of the world.
Get both the songs.

Thorocraft is another example of the creativity pouring out of New York City every year. The footwear brand has had some exceptional pieces using high quality leather in previous seasons and Winter 2010 is a further step up. Variations on classic silhouettes make for some tough decisions in their footwear range – woven leather, classic boots and modern twists. Check it all out in their online store.
Several more exceptional shoes/boots ahead. Seriously.

A-Trak is another guy that we’re happy to witness living his dream. The guy is doing exactly what he loves and doesn’t seem to be making any compromises in the process. EIKNARF caught up with A-Trak for some insight into his life.
“EIKNARF and Asian Dan in collaboration with Media Contender & Kloud had the opportunity to be invited into Alain’s apartment/studio to get a candid view into how he got to where he is, what it took to get there and where he is going.”
