If you didn’t know (or did know but didn’t think you would care) the new MGMT album has been posted in its entirety (stream) and its actually good.
This statement actually means something as I may have been the only person under the sun to not like their first album beyond the standouts of “Kids” and “Time To Pretend” (no matter how overplayed they became). MGMT claims that this is their CD with no singles (allergies to fame perhaps?). They seem to be actively trying to scare people away by saying such things and releasing “Flash Delirium” as their first single to the blogs (probably the weakest song on the album).
This is a great album that may be too much of a departure for fans of their earlier stuff but I am much more into this new sound. The album sounds like they wanted it to be their “Pet Sounds” and resembles surf rock (a la Beach Boys) mixed with a little bit of space (Bowie is always an influence whether you realize it or not).
Regardless, make up your own mind and go listen to the album.
P.S. I’m a sucker for the album cover above. Looks a lot like some of the binders/trapper keeper I had in the early 90s.
