Another excellent e-mail we received recently was from New Zealand’s White Flight (no it’s not the KKK’s space program). In it, they shared with us their latest Ratatat produced single “Panther”, from their upcoming album “White Ark”. It starts off like a 90s rap song by The Pharcyde but quickly breaks into a cracking Ratatat beat. It only goes up from here, adding a swirling mix of indie-rock vocals with so many otherwordly sounds and effects it all gets a bit hectic (in a good way).
Here is some confusing, but life-affirming, promo to help explain who and what White Flight is/are:
“WHITE FLIGHT is only one little root hanging from the larger stem that is the HUMAN CRYSTAL CELEBRATION FOUNDATION. Which in reality is just speck of sand contained within the expanse of beach that is the PERFECT WISDOM REALIZATION ASSOCIATION. Working with sound and color here in the layer of the Earth Fruit, giving thanks for the opportunity to be alive in this moment on this wild planet. LIFE IS AMAZING! In all directions there is INFINITE LOVE exploding from the WHITE FIRE FLOWER. See you all on the MOTHERSHIP!!!”
In conclusion, this song is good. Get it.

Mike Grahm of Andorid Automatic sent his song “Stayed Too Late” over to us today. It’s some real nice synth pop that is begging to be shared with other people.
Mike is a Detroit, Michigan solo indie-electro artist. Android Automatic is an electronic project with influences from Radiohead to Kraftwerk with a dash of disco, synth pop, experimental, and indie mixed in. Winning combination.

For the person who travels, owns enough sneakers, a wallet and whatever else is on your to-acquire-today list, there’s the Common Projects passport holder. The passport holder has a similar aesthetic to CP’s line of wallets and will keep your passports, cards and bills safe. It’s made of rough Italian nappa leather and like all things made by Common Projects, it won’t disappoint.
Available at Tres Bien Shop.

We just learned about Unicorn Kid last week and he has already dropped a new song on everyone and it’s absolutely mental. If you’re a fan of dubstep and you played videogames in the 80s/early 90s then you will love this song. Even though we were floored with his song “Dream Catcher”, it’s hard to deny that this one is better overall. Bigger, louder, more hard-hitting with wicked vocal work. Unicorn Kid is only 18 years old… watch out.

BONUS: I was going to post this “Pursuit of Happiness” dubstep remix before I heard the Unicorn track above. No reason to make you guys miss out on this gem though. If you are lucky enough to DJ dubstep in a legit club (or your thinking of adding it to the repertoire) you’re probably going to want this to make your transition.

Time to support some great local Toronto talent. We first met vitaminsforyou at last years NXNE and quickly became fans of their positive energy both on and off the stage. They know what we like so they sent their newest remix of fellow Torontonians Lioness to share with everyone. It has the familiar VFU bouncy electro sound, but veers off into some spooky and ominous directions that we quite like. The song is repetitive but with purpose, only lending itself to the brooding lower end and the haunting vocals. This song is an adventure clocking in at 7 minutes and 24 seconds, so strap in.

BONUS: In case you missed this awhile ago, you MUST check out yet another Toronto artist, Pilotpriest, going bonkers on Lioness’ “You’re My Heart”. A truly amazing remix that has withstood the test of time. When that chainsaw synth gets mental at the 4:18 mark and then just builds until that massive drop at 4:30, it still gets me throwing fists in the air. Banger Banger Banger Banger.

Tobacco first caught our attention with their song “Sweatmother” which hit the internet a couple weeks ago. It was great, but a little different from what we usually share. Therefore, we decided to wait a little until we heard more before we gave our approval. Well it didn’t take them long, because as of today have shared with us their latest song “Fresh Hex” that features the amazing Beck.
Sounding like a hyper energetic Black Moth Super Rainbow, Fresh Hex is a short (one minute and thirty seconds) but satisfying jam. Beck sounds right at home with the Tobacco sound and delivers work that would fit well alongside his earlier albums like “Odelay!”. This is a really exciting collaboration and we can only hope they do more.

It’s mixtape nation over here on Handsome, but we have to share this one just because its so good. The great people over at IM//UR made an hour long mixtape (to celebrate their birthday) and it that has a wide selection of some of the best songs from 2009-2010. You could be in a coma for a year and wake up today and play this mix and be all caught up with music from 2009-2010 (“as long as it has a synth disco feeling to it.” – IM//UR).

This is possibly the best news we could have imagined from Kid Cudi. He’s diverging from his pursuit of a party album for something more along the lines of Man On The Moon after realizing how much his fans appreciated it. Mr. Rager just might be the only thing to hoist Man On The Moon from our most played album on iTunes.

Matthew Billing, a happy Handsome customer, sent us this poem cause he’s awesome. We thought we’d share it.
‘Out There’ by Jamie McKendrick
If space begins at an indefinite zone
where the chance of two gas molecules colliding
is rarer than a green dog or a blue moon
then that’s as near as we’ll get to nothing.
Nostalgia for the Earth and it’s atmosphere
weakens the flesh and bones of cosmonauts
One woke to find his crewmate in a space suit
and asked where he was going. For a walk.
He had to sleep between him and the air-lock.
Another heard a dog bark and a child cry
halfway to the moon. What once had been
where heaven was, is barren beyond imagining,
and never so keenly as from out there can
the lost feel earth’s the only paradise.
