Jojo Project is a shoe brand founded on social entrepreneurship. Founders Chris and Matt merge their Belgium business with aid in Africa through a three fold concept – Choose, Act, Check.

The process involves choosing your pair of shoes, picking a project to support (planting trees in Niger, or installing water pumps in Kenya) and then checking up on the progress of your donation via their website.

BeatauCue | Handsome Clothing Co.

French electro mavens BeatauCue are getting ready to release their first full length EP on Kitsuné on May 24th titled Cha Cha Cha. The EP is composed of three originals and four remixes for the Cha Cha Cha EP release, and all of them are fire. Below is a minimix of all the tracks included in the EP. Remixers featured on the release include Handsome favorites Sharkslayer and Daniel Haaksman as well. I don’t know what song is at the end of this thing but its killer.

Tibi Tibi Tibi

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Tibi Tibi Neuspiel is a Toronto-based artist who originally began as a self-taught painter while living as a teenager in Prague.  After working as an assistant to sculptor Richard Stipl, Neuspiel began taking an interest in conceptual installation mediums.  These days, Neuspiel’s series Assassination Sandwiches [(2009/2010) shown above], has been getting loads of attention- and he deserves it.  By extracting parallels between art and comedy, Tibi presents recognizable historical figures in unusual contexts, providing the viewer the opportunity to identify easily and examine further.  While toying with an infatuation for timelessness, Neuspiel’s work remains archival in concept and form.  Take a look at more of his work, and my personal favourite, Men With White Beards on the Ceiling of a Church (2009), here.

Interview Magazine: David Blaine

Sunday, May 23, 2010

In this month’s edition of Interview Magazine, there’s an exceptional interview with David Blaine by Adam Kimmel. The close friends go over some of Blaine’s performances and the thought process behind them. These include swimming with great white sharks in the middle of the ocean, being enveloped in a block of ice and being buried alive.

It’s one of the most intriguing and multifaceted interview I’ve come across in a while. There’s an excerpt below and Interview Magazine also has it available in full online.

BLAINE: Neither. They’re wild animals and can do anything. But I made a rule with everyone on the trip. The rule was that no matter what the shark does, we couldn’t hurt it. So if it did decide to grab me or take me under the ocean, we weren’t allowed to hurt the animal, because we were going into his territory.

Interview: Style Salvage on Erik Schedin

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Style Salvage ran an interesting interview with Erik Schedin this week. Shedin is a man who seems to know exactly what he wants in the products of his every day life. As a result, he’s put together a short list of pieces he loves and produced whatever fell short of his standards. His retailing began with just three products: white sneakers, American Optical Frames and Pledge Furniture Wax. His line has grown slightly and caught the eye of some important buyers in London.

Now, you can check out his meticulously chosen line of goods in his online store or at Dover Street Market.

Here’s an excerpt. Head over to Style Salvage for the full interview.

SS: Could you talk us through your current range and how it has evolved …
Erik Schedin: I designed the sneakers in the beginning of 2004, they were first produced in one size only, 44, and released on my website in 2008. In the beginning I had three products, the sneakers, the American Optical frames and the Pledge furniture wax. The frames had previously been used by the Swedish army and when they where being phased out I got the opportunity to buy the remaining stock. The Pledge furniture wax is unfortunately not possible to get anymore either, they stopped producing it at the same time as I released my site and I think that I got some of the last bottles. It reflects a sense of perfection and pokes fun at me being such a control freak.

VIDEO: The Drums

This video could have been made in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, the 00s, or the 10s but one thing is clear, it’s all nostalgia.
