ROBOTRIP & ANIMAL INSTINCTS

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Andrew Damitio ROBOTRIP Animal Instincts | Handsome Clothing Co.

Awhile ago Handsome had the pleasure of running into a man by the name of Andrew Damatio. At first he was just a cool kid we met at a party, but we quickly learned that beyond being a good person, he is also an apt DJ, a talented producer (under the guise Robotrip), and lead singer of the exciting electro tinged band Animal Instincts.

You must check out the song Spanglish that he produced (with vocals by Nico from 21 Pump Street), as it was made to slaughter weak minded people everywhere. The song starts off with an unassuming beat, but everything quickly begins to build when the decidedly lo-fi riddim influenced vocals drop. Before you know it, you are overpowered by contemporary sounds that recall equal parts Rusko, Major Lazer, and A.R.E. Weapons. A devastating and very winning combination in our minds.

His work with Animal Instincts is much more conventional but no less worthy of praise. We have two songs for you to enjoy including “Got U”, an ode to those hazy nights of over indulgence and the amusing romances that have a way of popping up in such a state.

Big things ahead for this one.

COMMON PROJECTS FW2010

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Common Projects debuted their Fall/Winter 2010 Footwear, which is now available at Colette. The brand is venturing into several new silhouettes and doesn’t disappoint. Our favourite this time around is The Artic Boot (pictured), which slims down the traditionally utilitarian boot.

Also check out the Achilles Low in green and the 5 Hole Slip On Mid ahead.

Glenn O’Brien and Jay-Z have both provided advice to give up flip-flops for some summer shoes. Jeffrey Campbell is making things easy with his SF Huaraches made of woven leather. The shoes are a good option for some style-infused, sock-less summer days ahead.

UNOUOMEDUDE

Saturday, June 26, 2010

unouomedude | Handsome Clothing Co.

unouomedude (“you know you owe me dude”) hails from Jacksonville, Florida and has made some very catchy beach jams we’d like to share. The success of “Island Summer” relies on a serious synth line whereas “Buildings” recalls Animal Collective with its discordant ooh’s -and-ahh’s, however, they both remain firmly beachy.

He even runs a legitimate TUMBLR (not your average “here are some random photos of places I travel to for ‘gigs’”) that is worth checking out.

HANDSOME BUMPS INTO LUPE FIASCO

Thursday, June 24, 2010

Spending some time in LA last weekend, walking just off of 3rd Street we had the serendipitous privilege of bumping into Lupe Fiasco. We had a little chat with him on a sidewalk patio and were happy to see how to down to Earth he was. Unperturbed by the shift in his lunch, he was super nice, and sent some good luck Handsome’s way.

In appreciation of a couple of albums of excellence and for holding role model status, we hooked up Lupe with A Man Who Believes Nothing tee.

If you’re getting antsy for Lupe’s next album, LASERS, listen to his most recent mixtape, Enemy of The State: A Love Story.

NEW UFFIE SONG “DIFFICULT” PRODUCED BY SEBASTIAN

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Uffie | Handsome Clothing Co.

Uffie‘s new album “Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans” (Ed Banger) drops today, and to celebrate, we would like to bring some attention to an exceptional track off the album. It’s unfortunate that Uffie’s electro-hop sound was hijacked by some, but this song exhibits one thing that nobody can steal… her fantastic French friends.

On “Difficult” she enlists one of Handsome’s favorite French artists, SebastiAn, for production duties and creates a seriously catchy diddy that is a genuine blending of the two artist’s styles. Apparently, we shouldn’t worry that Uffie writes rhymes because she cashes checks. Listen to the song and then go buy the album.

HANDSOME IN LOS ANGELES

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

We made our way around L.A. over the weekend, spreading the Handsome word and in the process we’ve come across some super sweet street art, restaurants, clothing stores and ran into Lupe Fiasco.

We were pretty excited to stumble across some street art pieces by Space Invader, Shepard Fairey, Mr. Brainwash, Andre and Skullphone. Sidenote: Watch Exit Through the Gift Shop for some further education on those names. More pictures of all the artists’ work ahead.

Also next time you’re in L.A. here’s some of our favourite stores to check out:

South Willard

A sweet small store with a well curated collection of brands that’s free of all filler. Check it out for some Band of Outsiders, Dries Van Noten and South Willard’s in house brand.

Opening Ceremony

One of the coolest parts of the store is the fact that it’s in Charlie Chaplin’s former dance studio. The space is filled with the same brands that established Opening Ceremony in their New York flagship. You can go through some well chosen pieces from some of our favourites including Band of Outsiders, Acne, Pegleg, Dana Lee, and Alexander Wang.

Confederacy

Sharing the block with a massive Goodwill outlet, it was apparent that Danny Masterson’s store was taking a novel approach to high end retail. Their well chosen selection is housed in one of the nicest retail spaces we saw in the city. We walked through the high ceiling womens’ section, through the courtyard, passed Jon Hamm, and entered the super impressive menswear room. Racks and shelves of Patrik Ervell, Common Projects and Phillip Lim fill the space complemented by some telephone booth change rooms and a selection of photography books.

Also check out: Douglas Fir, Fred Segal, American Rag and Secret Service.

All photos compliments of Handsome Clothing Co.

S2A SILVER PEARL MEDAL OF HONOR NECKLACE

Thursday, June 17, 2010

In Surface 2 Air’s ongoing jewelery collection, we recently came across the Silver Pearl Medal of Honor Necklace, which makes for an interesting piece using a variety of finishes and materials. The chain and pendants combine silver, oxidized silver and a little pearl for a nice piece for girls or boys.

One of our previous favourites, the Three Finger C ring, is now available in gold (pictured ahead). We especially like the C ring as it’s a more comfortable option than the open three finger ring.

Both are available through OAK NYC.
