ALDEN | INDY BOOTS

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Alden is an excellent option in Americana fashion. The Massachusetts-based shoe company has been around since 1884 using premium fabrics and handcrafted production.

The Alden Indy Boots look clean and have some obscene technical specs including waxhide leather, an oil resistant neoprene outsole, and an interior tempered steel shank from heel to bail for extra support. Awesome comprehensible fact: originally known as the 405, the boots were renamed after being featured on the feet of Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones.

THE DRUMS – DOWN BY THE WATER (VIDEO)

Monday, August 30, 2010

“We wanted the ‘Down by the Water’ video to directly reflect the song itself, and be as simple as possible. Both the video and song are a tribute to the girl groups of the 50’s and 60’s, a great inspiration to the band and one of the reasons we started it.”

HNDSM JEWELRY LAUNCH

Sunday, August 29, 2010

After a few previews, the HNDSM Jewelry Line is ready to launch this Monday August 30th. The Jewelry Line will be the first collection from HNDSM, which will be followed by some new projects including a basics line that is being produced in Canada.

HNDSM Jewelry is all made in Canada from the best materials we could get our hands on. We’ve put together a small line of thought out pieces inspired by the abstract philosophies that keep our minds healthy.

Check out our interview with Faux Magazine for some insight into the coming line.

You can follow the brand on Facebook and check out the line at HNDSM.com where the online store will be launching after the weekend.

COMMON PROJECTS WING TIPS

Saturday, August 28, 2010

Common Projects continues to impress us with each season including their Autumn/Winter 2010 line. The brand encourages dressing up more often with their new Wing Tips, which stand out for us in the new collection. The Common Projects version does an excellent job in slimming down the silhouette  while maintaining the classic nature of the shoe. Like everything the brand does, they’re quality leather and Italian made.

Detailed shots ahead.

SCOSHA JEWELRY

Saturday, August 28, 2010

Scosha is a collection of jewelry from Schosha Woolridge, the Australian designer who is now based in Williamsburg, NYC. She’s put together a great collection of pieces for boys and girls with some excellent storytelling intertwined.

One of our favourite pieces is the M4N (pictured), which is a necklace of several details and the inscription “Thou Am What Thou Do”. She has a talent with words; each phrase open to your interpretation and adoption.

Scosha is available at many international stockists as well as the Scosha NYC Online Shop.

Check out a couple of our favoured pieces ahead.

HAMPTONS, BARCELONA

Friday, August 27, 2010

When it comes to shopping in Barcelona, El Borne seems like the place to spend the most time. A neighborhood of boutiques, cafes, and restaurants fill a few block minutes from the beach.

We came across a few stores boasting lines from international designers including Raf Simons, Opening Ceremony, Comme Des Garçons, and D Squared.

Within El Borne, we came across our favourite shop which was current and could hold it’s own in New York just as well as Barcelona. Hamptons was an impressive shop with a very well bought collection from Acne, Helmut Lang, Rag & Bone and essentials from Malin + Geotz. Within the collections of international brands, there was great buying for the dressier man, woman or child.

Next time you’re in the city, they’re definitely worth a visit.

STAR SLINGER

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Star Slinger | Handsome Clothing Co.

We’re loving this influx of hip-hop inspired “glo-fi” (or “experimental hip-hop”) music that’s been spearheaded by the likes of J Dilla, Gold Panda, and Daedelus.

The most recent artist working in this pseudo genre that has caught our attention is Star Slinger. Not only has he made some remixes for Handsome favorites Fiveng and Small Black, but he’s released a slew of heavily sampled original tunes that are equally as good, if not better. We wish more of mainstream hip-hop sounded like this.

Below are our favorite songs from his ever expanding catalog.

First up is the gorgeous “May I Walk With You?” that not only brings back common courtesy but also emotionally uplifting blips and bleeps that can make any cloudy morning a little brighter.

His song “Mornin’” is probably more suited for the aforementioned scenario but listening to the more melancholy “May I Walk With You?” first will only make this song sound even brighter.

“Longtime” incorporates a bit of a chip-tune sound with a smooth classic R&B flavored love ballad.

Also worth obsessing over are his remixes of Fiveng’s “Jonah” and Small Black’s newest “Photojournalist”.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

There are so many other great songs that are available on Star Slingers Bandcamp site (including a re-interpretation of Musical Youth’s “Pass the Dutchie”, we recommend picking up everything he’s made.

EDWIN VAN CLEEF + HOUSSE DE RACKET

Monday, August 23, 2010

Art of Music | Handsome Clothing Co.

Always suckers for what is often affectionately referred to as “space-disco”, we’d like to share Edwin Van Cleef‘s remix of the fabulous Frenchmen Housse de Racket. It starts off a little unassuming, but it will sneak up on you like a cool breeze on a humid day.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
