I loved art school. Studying something you’re passionate about is all well and good, but what I most appreciated were the teachers. It was always inspiring to be around people who both knew so much about art and were also constantly producing it. One of these teachers whom I was lucky enough to get to know is Gary Setzer.
Gary has recently toured his new performance work, Supralingual/Sublingual: The Tongue is the Terrain across the United States. With stops in New York, Brooklyn, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Denver, New Orleans, and Austin (among others), he provided gallery audiences with what the Huffington Post called “a phenomenal hybrid of his own, integrating video, music and performance.”
This video is for one of the songs off the Supralingual/Sublingual album. Johnathan Black, one of my hugely talented peers, filmed it. Like its title, it is ineffable.
Gary has been kind enough to share an exclusive download of the song with us that you can grab below. Fans of Gary Numan will approve.
Several new pieces from Banksy have debuted this week. Some of the pieces have popped up on the streets while others have come in the form of more traditional paintings. The content is inline with Banksy’s usual humour and opinions.
This is the best looking USB key we have come across and looks like the appropriate choice for those who find pleasure in the details. It is interesting to see Victorinox evolving and going beyond the pocketknives that they are so well known for. The Slim Flash is available in capacities ranging from 4 – 64GB, in a variety of casing colours.
We never intended this blog to focus so much on Toronto artists but there is so much greatness coming out of the city that we can’t ignore it. The Airplane Boys are the latest local group that has caught our ear. Their song Beau Monde is produced by DJA of Mad Decent fame and it rolls real hard. DJA knows how to milk a sample for all it’s worth.
Download the song below, check out the video after the jump, and if you’re attending Coachella, don’t miss their performance tomorrow.

Our latest jewelry release under our HNDSM moniker is now available in our online store. The Tanzania Collection is all handmade by Uru Diamonds for HNDSM in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. We have sourced three different fishing rope weaves as well as local Harita seeds to make each distinctive bracelet. All thread bracelets have been handwoven using the technique of Indian Ocean fishermen, which has been passed down over generations. The silver closures to all bracelets are of impeccable quality and are sourced directly from Italy. In addition, ten percent of the profits from each piece goes directly towards helping the children of the miners who source Uru Diamonds.
Traditional African jewelry artists have been known for their unique methods of creating spectacular pieces of art from nature’s own bounty. Based on tradition, African jewelry was meant to be worn as more than just an adornment. Traditional jewelry made of precious metals symbolized power, wealth, strength, vitality and wisdom.
Dover Street Market Ginza is now open, making it inherently one of the most reputable global retailers. Two of DSM’s main releases for the launch were the CDG Shirt + Supreme capsule collection as well as the BAPE + Comme Des Garcons PLAY Collection. Both collections sold out quickly and have made their way onto eBay at a generous markup. For those looking to acquire a piece from the historic store launch, The Dover Street Market London E-shop quietly stocked a limited run of both collections. Although most pieces have already come and gone, there is one more shirt (pictured above) that has been stocked in a healthy run of sizes. If you are considering it, we would recommend acting quickly.
Also, the DSM Ginza Site has now launched with detailed pictures of the entire concept space.
The Wake All My Youth EP by our good friends Young Empires is finally available worldwide. We’ve been fortunate enough to have a copy for months now and it still gets a lot of play whenever we’re itching for some upbeat dance-rock to get us through the day.
I feel honored that they asked me to design the cover and am really happy with how it turned out. They’re such a good group of guys and made the whole experience a pleasure. I hope everyone likes it. If you want to see some of my other work you can visit my portfolio site at christianrichardrice.com.

Beyond The Black Rainbow looks really promising. Some people have taken to calling it 2001: A Clockwork Tron Enter the Sunshine Void for its obvious thematic and visual similarities to those movies.
“Set in the strange and oppressive emotional landscape of the year 1983, Beyond The Black Rainbow is a Reagan-era fever dream inspired by hazy childhood memories of midnight movies and Saturday morning cartoons.
Rainbow is the outlandish feature film debut of writer and director Panos Cosmatos. Featuring a hypnotic analog synthesizer score by Jeremy Schmidt of Sinoia Caves and Black Mountain.”
Karl Lagerfeld is an interesting cat. Watch as he interviews himself and drops some knowledge on work ethic, muses, personal style, and how/why he went into fashion.
