Harakiri, has been “trying to deal with death with dignity” for a while. The result: an exceptional jewelry line based out of Montreal. Mireille Boucher’s Harakiri jewelry line is largely based on morbid animal imagery as a great deal of it is cast out of animal bones. She describes the line as “an attempt to catch the fleeting beauty of life…reminding us the magic from which we all came from.”
From her beginnings casting 19th Century crucifixes, she has created some exceptional pieces that seem like cousins of Pamela Love’s aesthetic. It’s an exceptional line and the fact that it’s Canadian only makes it more special to us. You can check the Harakiri Online Shop to share in the concept.
The shop has been restocked. If you’re one of those people that been wanting some Handsome clothing but couldn’t grab anything because we were sold out, we humbly apologize for the wait and we hope you can grab a piece before we run out for the last time (yes… that means new pieces are in the works).
Here’s a great video from Oliver Peoples for their 2010 Campaign featuring their coming eyewear collection. The eccentric video stars Elijah Wood and Shirley Manson are featured as an odd couple sporting exceptional eyewear at their estate.
“Les enfants sennuienet le dimance” (The children are bored on Sundays) has great shots from Autumn de Wilde reminiscent of Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums. Simply an exceptional video full of exceptional eye-wear.
Japanese cool kids are amongst the coolest in the world. Here’s an interview with Verbal and Yoon of Ambush. You’ve probably seen some Ambush jewelery pieces on people like Cudi and Big Sean who both rep a POW piece on the regular. Verbal (Teriyaki Boyz front man) and Yoon also recently collaborated with A Bathing Ape on some jewelery pieces and footwear.
Here’s an interesting interview by T.M.I. (Too Much Information) with the two of them going over style, design, the collaborative process and a get-started-on-your-dream message from the duo.
Gucci’s Icon-Temporary pop-up shops are making their way across global cities. Next on the list is London and a couple of exclusive sneakers for the London store have been created by Frida Giannini. The above shoe for London has been our favourite so far. You can check out the second London exclusive sneaker ahead.
The London location will be open for three weeks starting on April 22nd in Covent Garden and will carry 17 additional sneaker styles from the Icon-Temporary collection.
Just when you thought A Bathing Ape was becoming formuliac, they drop this collaboration with United Arrows. The Japanese collaboration includes a few pieces for the Spring/Summer 2010 season and our favourite is pictured above. The loafers feature their signature mustache logo. The line also includes three piece suits, dress shirts, ties and hats.
While all aspects of our lives are affected by the current economic climate, it seems the re-emerging trend to invest in hard-wearing, enduring products, is becoming ever more attractive. That said, the humble brothers of Billykirk are a breath of fresh air. Blending timeless design with the durability to last the test of time, their ability to create hand-made, quality products, has positioned them amongst fellow prominent leather makers.
“Brothers Chris and Kirk Bray have been producing leather goods for the last ten years. They launched Billykirk from Los Angeles in 1999, learning their craft from a third generation leather maker. A simple leather strap kick started the business, a decade later their collection has flourished into other offerings that consists of bags, belts, shoes, wallets, hats and other accessories. Since expanding and moving their operation to the East, they’ve employed a group of Amish leather makers to produce much of their line, while wrapping up production in their studio. We visited the brothers over the summer to observe their operation first hand and to discover the beauty behind the process.”
After doing some reading on Dunhill and their new creative director, Kim Jones, I noticed he was wearing this exceptional piece in a GQ photoshoot. The Key Watch was dug up from the Dunhill archives with some slight modifications from the 1937 original.
Details: The watch casing is made of sterling silver, but for the key portion, brass was used for strength so as not to break off in the lock. The timepiece movement is provided by Jaeger-LeCoultre.
Supra released pictures of its new “non-skate” line of shoes recently and they look excellent. Instead of continuing on a destructive path of making the most over-the-top shoe imaginable (I even have a pair of their garish gold leather skytops), the brand has returned to basics and created two brand new simple and classic silhouettes. The Cuttler is a high top sneaker and it comes in black leather and grey canvas. The Assault is a low top sneaker and it will be released in Black Full-grain, White Canvas, Grey Canvas and Navy Gingham throughout March and April.
I’ll have the black canvas hi-tops and the white canvas low-tops please and thank you.
More pics (thanks to highsnobiety) after the jump.
