This trailer for The Social Network, a film about the founders of the social-networking website, Facebook, was released recently and it has piqued our interest. As the titles catch-line (“You don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies”) suggests, this movie focuses on the more nefarious behind-the-scenes turmoil of the company.
Ryan McGinley has put together some super cool short films including a recent series entitled Entrance Romance. The series was shot with a Phantom camera, capturing over 1000 frames per second. Check out Entrance Romance for model Carolyn Murphy combined with some super slow motion water, fire and dogs.
Here’s an interview with Murphy on the making of the film.
Ricky Gervais was at Wembley Arena last night in London. The show had elements of Gervais’ classic themes of obesity (he has an interesting solution to the epidemic) and homosexual humour mixed in with his brutal, crude humour.
BUT what made the show just fantastic was his ongoing ability to entertain himself, and his reading/commentary of the classic Biblical tale, Noah’s Ark. Pages projected on the gigantic screen, Gervais questioned how Earth can have over 5 million species of animals when Noah’s Ark just probably wasn’t that big…His commentary of each sentence, the ambiguous relationship between God and Noah and dialogues between the animals was hilarious – 2 toucans discussing if they should walk or fly to the Ark – was stomach hurting funny.
Gervais is definitely something to see when he returns to London in September or during his upcoming North American tour.
“Dropped promo for a season of Tim Burton’s films in a Dutch on-demand tv channel. ”
A video for all the Tim Burton fans out there. The imagery is classic Burton style and probably something you won’t stumble across in his usual repertoire.
Banksy’s movie Exit Through The Gift Shop has debuted in the US and timed just right is an extended version of the trailer. You can check out five minutes of insight into the movie, it’s filmmaker and some of Banksy’s athletic moments evading the law.
We love supporting local Toronto acts so it is with great pleasure we share with you the new single from Tokyo Police Club. I should mention the band says their from Toronto but Wikipedia claims they are from Newmarket. Having visited Newmarket in the past I know why they would try to hide this and claim allegiance to TO.
We were lucky enough to attend a University just outside of Toronto where one of the clubs would get TPC to play at least 2 times a year. We would regularly make it out to catch their shows (if you’re reading this Tokyo Police Club, I apologize for getting in a fight during one of your sets in Kingston).
With “Breakneck Speed” they reveal a more matured sound (which is only natural considering they released their first EP when they looked like they were 13) and, despite the name of the song, have slowed down a little. The song is dangerously radio friendly so if you live in Toronto expect this to be played on The Edge 102.1 a whole hell of a lot this summer. If your wondering what Tokyo Police Club have been up to since their breakout album “A Lesson in Crime” be sure to check out the video below. Their new album “Champ” will be coming out in the spring of 2010.

An excellent fifteen minutes of animation, criminal activity and a commercial catastrophe.
The animated short was directed by the French animation collective H5, François Alaux, Hervé de Crécy and Ludovic Houplain. After acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival 2009, Logorama opened Sundance 2010 and won an Oscar this year for Best Animated Short.
One of the biggest driving forces of Handsome is the simple pursuit of living the dream. We constantly find our eyes setting on people doing what they love and taking risks in doing so. We also appreciate the many who have earned their dreams and among those is Jay-Z who sits as a source of inspiration.
Absolut teamed up with the hardworking man in a short film entitled NY-Z. Fifteen minutes of black and white shots will leave you a little more educated on Jay-Z, New York, business, art and inspiration.
One of the most surreal, inspiring, beautiful, confusing and strange documentaries I have ever seen.
“Henry Darger, an elderly recluse, spent his childhood in an Illinois asylum for feeble-minded children and his adulthood working as a janitor. He lived a quiet, nearly solitary existence, but his imaginary life was exciting, colorful and sexually provocative. When he died in Chicago in 1973, his landlady discovered in his room 300 paintings, some over 10 feet long, and a 15,000-page illustrated novel (The Realms of the Unreal), which told the epic story of the virtuous Vivian Girls, seven angelic sisters who lead a rebellion against godless, child-enslaving men.”
At the end of the film you are left wondering if Henry Darger was a madman or a genius. We believe he is a genius and probably one of the most important American artists (or simply artist) to exist. The Realms of the Unreal stands as the longest novel ever written.
If you’re rich, you’re eccentric; if you’re poor, you’re crazy…
Angels & Airwaves recently announced a forty day tour in promotion of their new album, LOVE. LOVE stays true to the classic AVA sound with content even more hopeful and epic than their previous releases. We’re big supporters of their vision and consistently positive message. Check out the album for download here. Hopefully it’ll keep you tied over until their outer space movie drops later this year. Here’s some insight from Tom on LOVE.
“We loved the idea of esoteric symbolism — geometric shapes hold an energy pattern. When a human looks at a shape, they instantly receive energy from their mind. So we reworked the geometric shape of the symbols in the word “love,” so when people see that word it instantly provides certain energy.”
