Video: The Children Are Bored On Sundays

Friday, March 5, 2010

Here’s a great video from Oliver Peoples for their 2010 Campaign featuring their coming eyewear collection. The eccentric video stars Elijah Wood and Shirley Manson are featured as an odd couple sporting exceptional eyewear at their estate.

“Les enfants sennuienet le dimance” (The children are bored on Sundays) has great shots from Autumn de Wilde reminiscent of Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums. Simply an exceptional video full of exceptional eye-wear.

Interview: Verbal & Yoon

Friday, March 5, 2010

Japanese cool kids are amongst the coolest in the world. Here’s an interview with Verbal and Yoon of Ambush. You’ve probably seen some Ambush jewelery pieces on people like Cudi and Big Sean who both rep a POW piece on the regular. Verbal (Teriyaki Boyz front man) and Yoon also recently collaborated with A Bathing Ape on some jewelery pieces and footwear.

Here’s an interesting interview by T.M.I. (Too Much Information) with the two of them going over style, design, the collaborative process and a get-started-on-your-dream message from the duo.

Handsome Interview With JinjaBeard

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Daniel Arsham | Handsome Clothing Co.

I did an interview with Charlie Marks of JinjaBeard a couple of days ago. For those who don’t know, JinjaBeard is a great little menswear/streetwear blog based in Sheffield, UK that highlights a lot of the best up-and-coming and lesser known brands out there.

If you care about what you wear we recommend you subscribe to JinjaBeard because it’s almost guaranteed that Charles will unearth an amazing/exciting brand you have never even heard of before.

You can check out the full interview here.

VIDEO: The Drums “Best Friend”

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

The Drums are great and they just released an equally great video for their new single “Best Friend”. It is minimal and yet still heavily designed which matches very well with our own aesthetic. “Best Friend” is the first single off The Drums upcoming debut on Moshi Moshi, out at the end of the month.

I’m also happy to see someone dances exactly like me.

BONUS: I recently watched the movie Control (a beautifully shot movie about the band Joy Division) after receiving a recommendation from my friend Krysta (of ANDHOW! fame). I quickly learned that Ian Curtis (the lead singer) is also an amazing dancer. Check the video below for proof.

Mr. Bathing Ape

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Just when you thought A Bathing Ape was becoming formuliac, they drop this collaboration with United Arrows. The Japanese collaboration includes a few pieces for the Spring/Summer 2010 season and our favourite is pictured above. The loafers feature their signature mustache logo. The line also includes three piece suits, dress shirts, ties and hats.

Parra + Nike Air Max 1

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

French artist Parra has come out with a handful of Nike collaborations now, but our favourite ones have been his Air Max 1s. His first pair were super clean with subtle Parra splashes of colour on a black base. The most eccentric part of the shoe was the practically hidden insole (pictured ahead).

This time around, Parra has done up another pair of Air Max 1 sneakers that are a lot more colourful (pictured above). The sneakers have a lot going on including a multitude of colours, suede, mesh and of course custom insoles.

The Parra Air Max 1 is available on March 13, 2010 through Patta.

Gorrillaz Stylo Remixed by Labrinth (SNES Styles)

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Gorillas Fighting by Nicholas Godell | Handsome Clothing Co.

As I’m sure many of you are well aware, the new Gorrillaz album “Plastic Beach” comes out next week (March 8th). Remixes of the first single, “Stylo”, have been popping up everywhere and I must say I have been pretty disappointed by both the original and the remixes.

However, I recently came across this remix by Labrinth that makes the most out of the previously drab song. Sounds reminiscent of the now classic SNES videogame system are manipulated to create a rap-electro beat that begs to be played loud. Try not to like this song.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

DOWNLOAD: Gorillaz – Stylo (Labrinth SNES Remix feat. Tinie Tempah)

BONUS: Preview the entire “Plastic Beach” album over at The Guardian.

BillyKirk

Monday, March 1, 2010

While all aspects of our lives are affected by the current economic climate, it seems the re-emerging trend to invest in hard-wearing, enduring products, is becoming ever more attractive. That said, the humble brothers of Billykirk are a breath of fresh air. Blending timeless design with the durability to last the test of time, their ability to create hand-made, quality products, has positioned them amongst fellow prominent leather makers.

Via The Scout

“Brothers Chris and Kirk Bray have been producing leather goods for the last ten years. They launched Billykirk from Los Angeles in 1999, learning their craft from a third generation leather maker. A simple leather strap kick started the business, a decade later their collection has flourished into other offerings that consists of bags, belts, shoes, wallets, hats and other accessories. Since expanding and moving their operation to the East, they’ve employed a group of Amish leather makers to produce much of their line, while wrapping up production in their studio. We visited the brothers over the summer to observe their operation first hand and to discover the beauty behind the process.”

Nobody Beats the Drum – Grindin’

Monday, March 1, 2010

What do you get when you mix spray painted wooden blocks, black lights, stop-motion photography, and meticulously stitching 4085 photos together? A word of caution: Mind melting may occur. Visual Artist Rogier van der Zwaag acts as creative eye for the band Nobody Beats The Drum, and was given the task to create the video for their song Grindin’. Take a deep breath and enjoy.
