The trailer for Wes Anderson’s newest film, Moonrise Kingdom, was just released. We love Wes Anderson films here at Handsome and after watching this trailer, it looks like we can expect more awesome from the man. His taste in cinematography, actors, music, stories, and even typography is always impeccable.
Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.
One of our favourite contemporary brands, Our Legacy, is one of the first to be stocking boutiques with their Spring Collection. Amongst a range of offerings, Our Legacy has been making solid shirting for several seasons, which has become known for fit, construction and durability. A standout piece in our eyes is the pictured black button up with oversize polka dots. The classic fit and quirky pattern make for a nice combination. In addition to the look of the piece, it is also a quality product produced in Portugal.
‘Brothers’, the first taste of Tanlines upcoming LP Mixed Emotions is extremely promising. The sound is breezy, big and crisp but we think the true standout are the vocals. They’re poppy yet moody and definitively masculine while remaining super smooth — something not often heard in dance music today. This is a song you’ll want to get stuck in your head.

Fairends came to our attention thanks to the expanding multi-brand collection at Unis. The brand makes simple, quality headwear in the USA. They offer a range of silhouettes, colours and patterns, which are available in their online shop as well as select stockists. Our favourite option from Fairends is the Camp Cap in the Navy Polka Dot colourway.
Supreme is a brand that we have found to be consistently intriguing for years. While maintaining a tight association with skate and hip hop culture, they manage to remain alongside some of the most renowned fashion brands in a handful of the world’s best retailers. This morning we were happy to see an insightful article from BoF compliments of 032c.
“In a two part series, courtesy of our friends at 032c, BoF takes you inside notoriously press shy, New York-based streetwear brand Supreme. Today, in Part I, we examine how Supreme — the Chanel of downtown streetwear —became a global cult brand with its own myths, iconography and belief systems.”
Two of our favorite producers making music on the more instrumental and atmospheric spectrum of electronic music recently released songs to the internet. Usually, when someone describe’s something as “atmospheric” it is interchangeable with “boring”, but Blood Diamonds & Giraffage know how to craft a beat that entertains and creates a strong sense of feeling.

Just when we thought the latest Grimes song would be our jam for the next month, Pandr Eyez comes along and grabs our attention away. It’s hard to describe their sound as it’s like nothing else out there right now, but if we had to, it would be something along the lines of neo-soul-electro-swag.
The vocals cover the soul, the minimalist blippy beat covers the electro side of things, and the detuned male vocal in the chorus combined with the overall feel covers the swag. It’s fitting that they’re signed to Cascine, the New York-London imprint that has released records by Chad Valley, Selebrities and Jensen Sportag.
Slow, dark, and deep all mixed with the right amount of pop — just the way we like it.

Arts & Crafts, the Canadian label best known for signing indie darlings like Broken Social Scene, Stars, and Feist, has begun a new era with their newest signing of darkwave synth-pop group Trust. The duo hails from our hometown of Toronto which is about all they have in common with their label mates.
Their sound is reminiscent of Crystal Castles (another Toronto group) but with male vocals. In the last year they’ve performed with DFA1979, Crystal Castles, Balam Acab, Glass Candy, and Hercules and Love Affair. Don’t expect to see this on an iPod commercial anytime soon.

For those looking to start or enhance their collection of comfortable, casual sneakers, the New Balance M577 is an excellent option. The 577 shoe was launched in 1989 as a technical running shoe and over the decades has socially evolved into a casual sneaker. The model is still Made in the UK and is one of the few casual options to offer a ventilated construction and high stability sole.
Another indicator that it is a great shoe is the fact that both Oki-Ni and Tres Bien Shop picked up the model for AW11.
“Expensive Looks, the pseudonym for New York-based psych-pop producer Alec Feld, melds tropical garage breaks, shimmering visceral chants, and disco-edged house to kick back to the displays of natural forces and days of unparalleled euphoric ecstasy. Akin to creations of early garage titans and wonders transfused with codeine-soaked acid jams, the smoothly ethereal yet grimy sounds reveal the inner-workings of towering, crashing polar shifts.”
It’s an apt description. Really loving these sounds. Below are our favorites from his Soundcloud.
