Banksy’s latest piece is getting a lot of attention per usual, but this time it’s getting more attention for what he covered up as opposed to what he created. Pictured below, Banksy’s piece in Regent Canal covered up a 25 year old piece by London Graffiti legend, Robbo. This was reciprocated with a modification of Banksy’s piece by Robbo (or team Robbo – Robbo would be likely in his 50s at this point).
From what I’ve heard, part of creating graffiti is the fleeting nature of the pieces. I can’t figure out if this is a creative battle (the best kind) or hurt feelings expressed. What do you think?
Stage 1 – Robbo makes his mark in 1985 which had remained until this year.
Stage 2 – Banksy creates his own piece over the Robbo mural
Stage 3 – (Team) Robbo replies
